Viral ‘bro code’ challenge tests confused boys: ‘I have no idea what’s going on’

Brother, no!

The standard barometer for spotting a “bro” is no longer about their video game stats or their beer drinking prowess.

Instead, according to social media, the real test is to see how boys – and girls too – react and interact with a series of objects placed on a table, similar to what the candidates to become the Dalai Lama do with holy relics.

If you have the right instinct, your behavior will clearly prove how much of a “bro” you are to the public.

The viral trend started when TikTokker and mom Jennifer Maxwell, known online as @splendidlysmittenjen, asked her family by placing an untied bag of bread next to tongs, a baseball and an electric drill.

At first, her elementary-aged son and daughter showed no knowledge of proper male mechanics, but Maxwell’s college-age cousin proved to be the perfect sibling in a clip seen nearly 5 million times.

Alas, what did he do to get by with what Maxwell called “a nearly perfect brother test curse?”

Instead of clearly putting a tie on the bread bag, the old fellow chose to take the bread and twist it around until it was closed, grabbed the tongs and gave it the obligatory two pinches while gripping.

He then picked up the baseball and instinctively tossed it into the air, and then extended the drill and spun it around, summoning the necessary spirits to come out in color.

Abstaining from extra gestures and sports is what separates the brothers from the boys, via the Internet. Maxwell said he ended up using a bread tie only at her request.

The theory here is that each individual rating marks a quarter of a person’s sibling mentality.

“It’s instincts at their best,” one person commented on the brother’s high-scoring video.

Adding a degree of credibility, a woman named Cynthia wrote back: “I have no idea what’s going on.”

Since the viral video surfaced in late May, several replays of the test — sometimes with items replaced or added as a tape measure to see if the brother applicant can pull it off — have flooded TikTok and other platforms.

It’s gotten so big that professional sports teams like the Brooklyn Nets and Seattle Seahawks have recently even questioned the nature of their athletes.

Although viral, without explanation or context, many people felt bewildered online. It wasn’t until Maxwell’s exposé with her cousin that the audience was allowed into the unspoken behavior of the brothers’ corps.

“After 5 of these bro test videos, I FINALLY UNDERSTAND THANK YOU,” commented one woman.
